Therapy for Anxiety in Washington DC

In our practice, we frequently see clients who are suffering from anxiety. There are several different forms of anxiety which we commonly see including phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorders, generalized anxiety disorder and social anxiety disorder. All of these have elements of very strong fears and oftentimes overwhelming dread for certain situations. There are also physical manifestations of anxiety including gastrointestinal, respiratory and cardiovascular changes.  The good news is that there are some very effective treatments that will alleviate symptoms and help the patient to live more full lives.

Depending on the client's situation and goals, there are several kinds of psychotherapy that work very well. One of the most frequently used therapies is known as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). There are several benefits to CBT. First of all, it is known for its fast results, typically after only 8 sessions, the patient will begin to feel better. As hinted by its name, the therapy consists of two parts--the cognitive and the behavioral. The cognitive part of the therapy is designed to reduce anxiety by giving an individual skills to assess situations more realistically.  We will explore what's triggering your anxioius thoughts and learn new ways of understanding them so that they will no longer trigger our worries or anxiety. On the other hand, the behaviorial part of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is also applied to help individuals address actions which may allow for increased ability to manage stressful environments.  Allowing opportunities for change in our behaviors can greatly improve our ability to face even our biggest worries.

There is no need to let anxiety put your life on hold. Contact Christina V. Hall, LICSW to schedule a consultation today at  202-494-9593  or Christinahall@washingtontherapy.com
